Sierra and a Desert Breakthrough

Description

Day 24
We've had a breakthrough in the desert! Lucius was fighting an archaeologist's sandslash and it wasn't going well. He was trapped in a sand tomb and the sandslash kept hammering him with crush claw and slash. The raging sandstorm around us did nothing to help, and made it nearly impossible to see him and return him.

I honestly thought I was going to lose Lucius. I truly panicked as I kept trying to return him but the retrieval beam missed every time. With each try the ball felt no heavier than before. Mickey must of heard my desperation; he broke out of his pokeball and spewed water into the air, creating a small rain shower. The flying sand became mud, clumping together in the air and helping Mickey's visibility at least. I just got covered in mud, goggles and all.

Through smudged goggles I saw Mickey standing between the sandslash and Lucius, defensively postured. Lucius was caked in mud and blood. The sandstorm took control again, limiting my sight but I think I saw an exchange between them. I returned Lucius as Mickey finished off the sandslash. The archaeologist scolded me for even thinking of using a non-ground type in a desert when I yelled at him for nearly killing Lucius. I realize now he was right; I was foolish. I'd just been trying to get him more training and put him in harms way.

Since we were in the middle of a desert sandstorm I had Mickey erect a thick wall of mud to protect me as I tended to Lucius' wounds. I didn't want to wait to reach a pokemon center: hell, I couldn't remember which direction it was anyways so it would take way to long to navigate out. My first clue that Mickey and Lucius had just advanced their relationship was Lucius' genuflection towards Mickey while I was tending him. Mickey returned the gesture, and I felt conflicted. It's wonderful that they are bonding because of my mistake, but it was my error all the same. it should have never happened. But maybe the team will be stronger for it.

Oh, and the rest of our adventure was plain. Mickey and Grawl handled most of the other fights, mostly Mickey, and I caught a trapinch I named Sierra. Weird little thing; her head is bigger than her body and her jaws make up most of that head. And I found fossils in the sands. One was a claw and one looked like a leg, or a root. I'd picked up the claw first to check it out and other fossil was eaten by the storm. Ah well.

We are back in Lavaridge now, resting and preparing for tomorrow's journey back to Petalburg with May. As I write this Lucius and Mickey lay side by side on the floor, sleeping together. A momentous occasion.
